It was the first DEXA scanner of the time and marked the first time that physicians had a way to accurately and cost effectively measure bone mineral content.
When the Hologic scanner was first introduced in 1987 it was the first and only DEXA scanner in the market. They were primarily utilized in health care settings and were quickly regarded as the gold standard in bone mineral density testing.
In the last 38 years, DEXA technology has vastly improved. The DEXA scanners of today are more compact and portable, offer enhanced precision, are faster, and can provide a detailed breakdown of fat and muscle in addition to bone mineral density readings.
