In my few months as a desert dweller I have quickly realized Arizona is such a land of opportunity for a traveling DEXA scan company. My mind is constantly thinking of new areas to go and demographics to serve. My husband is a rookie marathoner and triathlete, completing his 1st full marathon & half Iron Man within approximately 1 year. After experiencing marathons as a spectator, I started to ask him more about what it is like from an athlete’s perspective.
After our discussion, my Type A personality kicked into high gear and immediately found myself thinking, “How can we make Nomad Fit Lab part of this, and what benefits would this have for the running community?” So I began researching upcoming running/triathlon events in the area. The Phoenix Inaugural Marathon was a fantastic place to start. I knew this event was going to be huge. “Inaugural,” duh, and Phoenix/the surrounding areas are a highly active community.
Once I had been in contact with the director of partnerships for the event and saw how excited she was for what we do, I knew these were our people and marathons/triathlons would be a huge opportunity and highlight for our company. As someone who does not run, but wishes I did–I am seriously impressed by runners and was truly excited to be able to engage with them at the Expo.
Fast forward to the day of the Expo – it was an early one (per usual), but the atmosphere was absolutely electric. I felt so proud to be where I was and excited for the day ahead. After I reached the van and got everything set up, I went around and introduced myself and Nomad to fellow vendors. This initiated a lot of interest even before doors opened. As runners began to flow through the vendor maze my day was non-stop. From 9am- 6pm I was explaining the benefits of DEXA scans, providing a scan, or setting people up for future scans.
As the Expo was coming to a close and the last of the runners had left, I was able to sit down with Aubrey, the Director of Partnerships. She had been such a help throughout the entire process. From inquiring about being a vendor, to literally making a path for our van to drive through the vendor maze and out of the Convention Center. We had a bit of a “debriefing” and she invited us to return for next year’s Phoenix Marathon and the Mesa Marathon in February.
So… WE’LL BE BACK IN FEBRUARY to do it all over again for the Mesa Marathon Expo at Sloan Park. Come meet us there!
